Sr. Director of Data Science

Technology - Remote - Full Time

The Sr. Director of Data Science is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the company's data-driven initiatives. Reporting to the CTO, this individual will lead a cross-functional team of data scientists, data supply & acquisition experts, data engineers, and threat intelligence analysts. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in data science leadership, a deep understanding of cloud-based SaaS solutions (particularly Google Cloud Platform), and expertise in data governance, privacy, and engineering principles.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute the company's data science vision and strategy, aligning with overall business goals.
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact data science projects with a focus on business outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across different functions.
  • Recruit and retain top talent in the data science field.

Technical Expertise:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of data science solutions.
  • Guide the team in utilizing advanced data science techniques and algorithms.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security through robust data governance practices.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in data science and technology.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify business challenges and opportunities.
  • Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Communicate complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with IT, product, and other business teams to drive data-driven initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Advocate for data literacy and the value of data science throughout the company.

Qualifications:

Education: Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in data science, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading and scaling successful data science teams.
  • Direct experience with cloud-based SaaS solutions, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with systems design thinking or direct experience in systems design.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of data science processes, techniques, and tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data governance, privacy, and security.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience working in both small, dynamic teams and large enterprises.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly organized and structured with strong project management skills.
  • Experience with planning and tracking tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into actionable business insights.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Google Cloud Professional certification
  • Experience in cybersecurity or threat intelligence.
  • Background in the public sector or military organizations.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Strong coding skills in Python or other relevant languages.
